Call Me
The once ubiquitous symbol of connection, between families, friends, countries and continents - the phone box - is a disappearing piece of architecture from our high streets. A rarity to see one used anymore, there’s an urgency to record this piece of technology before it disappears forever. I have been documenting the remaining boxes across New Zealand, connecting the viewer to the nostalgia and memories or putting another 10 cents into the slot and hanging onto a conversation for a few moments longer. As we search each image for the phone box, so we search the wider environment for a sense of meaning amidst the supercharged technological environment of late capitalism.
Call Me is an ongoing project, be it a finite one, with new works constantly being added.
